Sellers was contracted by the City of Avondale to install a new 8” watermain off
of Central in an Old Town Avondale neighborhood. In addition to the watermain, the project
included new light poles, fence relocations, ADA concrete improvements, and repaving the
roadway. This project affected both residents and businesses. We subcontracted MakPro for community outreach to ensure the project communication and coordination needs were met.
Sellers worked with residents daily to keep them informed on the improvements taking place on their street and notified them 48 hours in advance of their water being shut down for tie ins.
Additionally, since this project required changes to several houses’ front properties within City ROW, MakPro and Sellers worked closely with residents to explain the improvements that would take place (fence relocation, sidewalk expansion, light pole installation, and fire hydrant installation) and ensured their property was restored to its original condition after the work was
completed. During the paving process, MakPro sent out detailed mailers to the neighborhood
with dates of work and closures for each street.
To help minimize disruption and maintain resident access, Sellers located parking lots near the neighborhood for residents to park and shuttled them on a golf cart to and from their homes. One of the main goals of Ph 2 improvements was to make the neighborhood ADA compliant. Sellers did jobsite walk throughs with the City of Avondale to help identify and adjust concrete areas/quantities to reach help project goal within budget.
Sellers was contracted by the City of Avondale to install a new 8” watermain in
the Cashion neighborhood. In addition to the watermain, the project includes new light poles
(both overhead fed and underground fed), fence relocations, and concrete improvements. Since
the work is taking place inside of a neighborhood – planning, scheduling, and communication
are critical to make this project a success. Sellers works with residents daily to keep them
informed on the improvements taking place on their street and notified them 48 hours in
advance of their water being shut down for tie ins. Additionally, to minimize disruption to the
residents and businesses, we are completing some of the tie ins overnight and completing
multiple tie ins in one day so that residents are only impacted once. As previously mentioned,
this project requires changes to several houses’ front properties within City ROW.
MakPro and Sellers have worked closely with residents to explain the improvements that would take place(fence relocation, sidewalk expansion, light pole installation, and fire hydrant installation) and have documented the properties prior to work so their property can be restored to its original condition. Other than community outreach, existing utilities is the other important challenge. In addition to completing our own potholing on each street prior to work, Sellers has worked closely with utility owners to confirm all known utilities have been properly marked prior to digging. When we come across unknown utilities we contact the suspected owners to confirm if
the lines are live and mark the accordingly.
